Frequently Asked Questions

Blokart

What is a Blokart?
- The Blokart is a three wheeled land yacht that was invented in 1999 by Mount Maunganui local Paul Beckett.
Blokart's are still designed and assembled locally in Mount Maunganui.

How old do I need to be?
- You must be at least 8 years old to sail your own Blokart.
Younger kids can sail in a tandem Blokart known as a shadow kart

How fast can a Blokart go?
- As fast as you want to go! Depending on the wind. Typically speeds of 30-50 kph (18-31 mph) are achieved, but speeds of over (106 kph / 65 mph) have been recorded.

How easy are they to sail?
- A Blokart is very easy to sail as the sheet rope acts as an accelerator and you can go as slow as you like while you learn or as fast as the wind allows.

How do you stop?
- Just point the Blokart into the wind and you will slowly come to a stop. There are also plenty of grass run-off areas to pull on to help stop faster.

Drift Trikes

What is a Drift Trike?
The electric Drift Trikes at BayStation are very unique, they are a three-wheeled trike powered by an electric front wheel with custom built drifting rear wheels.
They were also invented by Paul Beckett and are designed and built here in Mount Maunganui.

Why are the Drift Trikes so unique?
The Drift Trikes are unique and different to drift-karts or go-karts as they are front-wheel drive which allows you to have a lot more control over the Trikes, while the custom drift wheels mean you will be sideways as often as possible.

How old do I need to be?
You must be at least 8 years old and at least 1.4m tall to ride the drift trikes.

Can I take a younger or smaller child on the Drift Trikes with me?
No, unfortunately, the Drift Trikes can only take one person per trike. But we do have the tandem Blokart available for a parent to sail with a co-pilot in the shadow kart.

How easy are they to drift?
The Drift Trikes have custom built rear wheels meaning they can drift extremely easily, while still having control over the front wheel which drives the trike.
